Maria graduated from the Faculty of Law, Athens University (LL.B) with great distinction, acquired a Master of Laws Degree in International Commercial & European Law (LL.M) with Honours from Cambridge University, a Master of Science Degree (MSc) in Maritime Operations from Liverpool John Moores University, and a PhD in Banking Law with great distinction from the Faculty of Law, Athens University. She is an FCO Chevening Scholar/British Embassy; an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators; an Accredited Mediator (ADR Group, London) since 2010; an Accredited Mediator Trainer (CEDR EU Train the trainers programme); an Ex-Member of the National Mediators Accreditation Committee, established under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Justice, Transparency & Human Rights (since 2014); and a Lecturer at the Greek branch of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (Maritime Law, Marine Insurance, Salvage Law, Cargo Claims, Contract law).

Maria has wide legal experience in commercial, shipping and criminal matters, Lloyd’s Open Form Arbitrations, LMAA Arbitrations, Mediations (London/Athens), Court Hearings before the High Court of Justice in London, Court of Appeal etc.

She is the author, among others, of

  • Leasing of an industrial complex in the event of special liquidation, Dike 30, pp. 418 ff.;
  • The recognition and enforcement of a default judgment issued by an English Court, Dike 33, pp. 481 ff.;
  • Fixed and floating charges on machinery according to Law 4112/1929: A Comparative study of the common and civil law systems, Athens 2007.
